Two Financing for Development items have been taken up during the General Segment of the Substantive session of the Economic and Social Council in Geneva over the past week (23-30 July).
First, the ECOSOC Resolution on a strengthened and more inclusive intergovernmental process to carry out Financing for Development Follow-up has been informally agreed as of earlier this week and the formal adoption of the resolution is slated to take place during the Councils morning plenary session on Friday 31 July.
Once the resolution has been formally adopted two members of the GSEG, specifically the ITUC and Third World Network, will have the opportunity to address the plenary and present Civil Society viewpoints on the resolution.
Second, as a direct follow-up item coming out of the Doha Declaration (para 16), Member States are currently in negotiations to come to agreement on a resolution which takes up the issue of International Cooperation in Tax Matters. Negotiations are slated to conclude with a view to formally adopting the resolution on 31 July, during the Councils morning plenary session.
